Does Acer Swift 3 SF315-41-R50C Support NVMe SSD or is it limited to M.2 SATA?

Hi everyone,

I have an Acer Swift 3 SF315-41-R50C, it came with 1 TB HDD and 8 GB RAM and I want to upgrade my storage by adding an M.2 SSD. The laptop has an empty M.2 slot, but I’ve seen mixed information online about whether it supports NVMe SSDs or only M.2 SATA.

Can anyone confirm if this model works with NVMe SSDs? If so, are there any specific NVMe drives that are known to work without issues?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, the Acer Swift 3 SF315-41-R50C supports both M.2 SATA SSDs and M.2 NVMe SSDs in the second slot. The NVMe Samsung 870 Evo Plus 1TB is a very reliable SSD. Ssd upgrade possible? Sata or nvme? Acer swift sf315-41 — Acer Community

There is a caveat to that, depending on which CPU you have NVMe x4 speed may not be supported:

Where did you find this? Can you provide the link as I've seen other threads as well in which people were complaining about having an M key slot and still not being able to recognise the Nvme SSD.

The service guides for Acer products are not publicly available. There are a few of us community members (Acer Aces) that are allowed access, so that we can publish snippets from them to help out.

Yes, there are two M. 2 slots for SSDs in your SF314-512. They both support NVMe drives using PCIe 4.0 interfaces, so should be nice and fast. You can put any size drive you can afford into either slot.

I really wish people would actually read the thread before answering. :) Your SF315-41 has a single SSD slot, unlike the very different SF314-512 models, it's also PCIe 3.0, not 4.0.

Hey, I am having trouble to find compatible SSDs. Can you confirm which M.2 Nvme SSD will work with my Acer Swift 3 SF 315-41 R50C? Will WD Blue SN580 work? I know it's a PCIe Gen 4 SSD but as Nvme SSDs are backwards compatible so it should work (with lower Gen 3 speeds). I will be glad if you can confirm this or suggest a good Nvme SSD that is compatible, preferably with DRAM. I'm from India so I will prefer buying from Amazon.

Any NVMe SSD in a M.2 2280 form factor will work fine. A gen 4 drive will work, but at half the rated speed. A gen 3 drive will work at it's full speed. Since you are in an area where availability might be an issue, and returns problematic, I'd stick with a name brand like Samsung.

Okay but I actually found that people had issues of Samsung SSDs not getting detected so can you confirm any SSD that will surely work or that is used by someone in the community, because sellers don't give return options here.

    @Shubhh

Your laptop was shipped with AMD Ryzen 3 2200U / 2.5 GHz.
Here's the specification details for the SSD.

As Billsey mentioned, you may use the Samsung SSD. The below mentioned SSD are also compatible of they are available in your region.

I hope this helps! If this was useful, please hit 'Yes' or 'Like'! Thanks! 😊

My laptop has R5 2500U but anyway, thank you for your help. These SSDs are not available here but I'll probably buy WD SN580.

You don't have to use the same models as Acer shipped. Since your system has the 2500U yours supports NVMe x4 SSDs, and any of the better manufacturers will be fine.
