Just received my TMB311-33 TravelMate laptop and put it on my desk to set it up.

With the display open the base of the laptop does not sit flat on the desk top because the lower rear edge of the open display actually raises the rear end of the laptop.

Incredible design failure by Acer !!

Hmmm - didn't know about this type of design - but thanks for the info.

I really don't like the way the hinges will get stressed when you use it for extended periods - wil consider placing a suitably sized coaster underneath so the four rubber feet stay in contact what ever the display angle is.

That design is called ergolift. The bottom part of the screen will raise the laptop's bottom for better cooling and typing position.

Thank you and have a nice day!

Yes, by design to give a little more angle to the keyboard.

That is likely a good idea. The hinge stresses we typically worry about is when the laptop is opened or closed. Due to the modern "thin and light" designs, there isn't a lot of material in the case where the hinges screw in. Over time when opening or closing, especially when putting twist flex on the screen by opening from the corner, the screws will start to pull loose. Once that starts the in warranty solution is a case replacement, and the out of warranty repair involves metal epoxy to rebuild the mounts. The stresses from having it sitting as it does are significantly lower than the ones when you open or close.
