struggling with my P4 - key keyboard is lit and screen is blank. Also getting a short beep when I plug in the charger and an orange light that eventually goes blue.

I have tried -

Ensuring brightness is up.

Resetting by pressing power button for 30 -45 secs.

Resetting battery with a paperclip.

trying a different plug socket.

Im totally stumped,

if anyone can help I’ll be very grateful!

Do you have an external monitor you could connect to see if the video is working there? That might tell us if the issue is with the screen or with the rest of the system. You state that it's a P4, but there have been hundreds of different P4 models over the years. Which is it? Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like TMP4-xxx-xxxx. Depending on laptop age it might be the CMOS battery…

OK, so less than two years old. You should have an HDMI port on the left side, plus two Thunderbolt 4 ports. They all support video, so if you can connect an external monitor or a TV to it that would tell us if it's coming up, but without a display, or not coming up at all. Both the lit keyboard and the beep when the charger is inserted don't require the OS to be loaded, but if the display were working I'd expect an OS fail to at least show the splash screen and allow entry into the BIOS. One potential failure would be the code stored in CMOS (actually SPI ROM on these newer machines) not executing, which wouldn't allow it to initialize the display. That would require a trip to a service center to have the SPI ROM reflashed to recover…
