Hi, I'm heading off soon on a filming trip and I'm taking a 4TB external SSD to back up my video files to, but I'd like to take also take my Acer Spin 5 - N17W2 laptop as well, and I need to know if I could swap out the existing 256GB SSD for a much larger SSD, and use this in my laptop as a 2nd back up? And if so… how big can I go in size that will work correctly in the Acer???

Knowledgeable advice here would be greatly appreciated…

Oh… thanks for that. I'm lost these days with the different specs. Was fine in the 80's/90's but too much other stuff I'm into to keep up.

Really great to hear that as although this is an old laptop now, it's not had hard use and I need something light and simple to do this, so I was hoping it could handle the extra size inside.

Many thanks and I'll follow that link up. (;-)

Hi, your model supports either a M.2 SATA drive or M.2 NVMe drive, but a NVMe SSD up to 2TB will be much faster. To transfer your data and Windows OS you can use an external USB backup drive (4TB) and programs like W7 BU Image file creator (Control Panel) or any other BU software. WD BLACK SN750 NVMe M.2 2280 or Samsung 970 Evo Plus are both good Gen3 drives for the only one PCIe M.2 3x4 slot in the Spin 5.

Thank you for the fast reply.

Yes, I'm already taking at least one external 4TB SSD. And as I've had a quick look inside the ACER and can see there's no allowance for a 2nd internal SSD, I was hoping I could swap out the single drive to a bigger one, thus saving the dangers of 2 external drives being plugged and unplugged continuously.

So you're saying this Acer max's out at 2 TB internal? Is that correct?

Your Acer Spin 5 - N17W2 which is really identified and known as the Spin SF513-52N model has a boot M.2 SSD drive type of a PCIe Gen3 x4 NVMe max speed, you can fit a 4TB M.2 drive as capacities in a windows OS is determined by the boot drive format which the Spin has the GUID (GPT) type format which has a max capacity of 8 petabytes (1 petabit = 1000TB) so your Spin will work with a 4TB PCIe3 x4 M.2 SSD drive very comfortably, have a look at this M.2 2025 benchmark test done by Ton's Hardware site and chose a an appropriate M.2 3rd Gen x4 drive. good luck and hope this helps you out further.
