Another same-specification compatible RAM stick is needed. If you have a 16GB RAM module installed, then for a 32GB dual-channel configuration, you need another 16GB RAM stick with identical specifications as the pre-installed 16GB module.

So, by installing two same specifications 16GB RAM sticks in both slots, you achieve a 16GB + 16GB = 32GB dual-channel memory configuration.

    Channel Modes

    • 1 RAM Stick = Single Channel
    • 2 RAM Sticks = Dual Channel

As I mentioned earlier, for dual-channel operation, both RAM sticks must be identical, sharing the same specifications like Size, voltage, CL (CAS Latency) rate, frequency, rank, memory profile, and generation (DDR5 or DDR4). These identical specifications ensure optimal dual-channel performance and system stability by preventing performance bottlenecks and maintaining consistent memory timing and bandwidth.

Without knowing what laptop you have, we have no way to actually answer your question. Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like xxxxx-xxx-xxxx.
