My Aspire 3 A315-58 has Intel UHD graphics in it. I use intel driver and support assistant. It says I have an upgrade for my graphics driver. But the title of the update is " Intel® Arc™ & Iris® Xe Graphics - Windows*". It also warns about installing driver from intel and suggests installing latest drivers from acer. But Acer doesn't have any new updates for this driver. Now being a UHD graphics user, can I install this Arc/Iris update? I know it doesn't make that much difference, but have anyone updated this way and had any issues with it?

I don't recommend using Intel's DSA "bloatware" but enable Optional Updates is Windows "Check for updates" in Advanced settings and wait till the latest Intel driver tested by Acer will be offered by WU for your system.

Thanks for the reply. I don’t install all the DSA-recommended updates, but I was wondering if updating the graphics driver would improve my graphics performance.

Hi, there are three aspects to your question:

    1. Any bloatware installed on your system, like Intel's DSA, leaves permanently keys in your registry that can trigger sales telemetry, install apps or can cause other unwanted effects.
    2. Circumventing testing of drivers by Acer (and Microsoft) for your system is not recommended as every laptop is unique, what runs OK on one system not necessarily works for 100% on another laptop, that's why it often takes long before Acer releases updates (testing), and Microsoft offers twice a month previews and cumulated patches/features.
    3. The third aspect is that Windows security prohibits installing digitally unsigned drivers, firmware and programs on your system and when you force a GPU driver installation it will roll back to the previous version or install the latest Acer endorsed driver when you reboot (wasting your time and efforts).
