Why is my Predator PH18-72 not Detecting drivers during a Clean Windows Install?

I just had the notification that my 24H2 update was ready so I downloaded and installed.

It had some sort of issue and needed to roll back the update. Not a huge issue, these things happen.

But after a restart it refused to boot into windows again, even if I select windows boot manager in the bios.

I then thought I would just do a clean install, but the installer does not recognize the main drive.

After a bit of research, I realized I needed the IRST drivers, but after downloading them from your support site, the installer doesn't recognise those either.

The drive is visible in the bios so I'm not sure what to do now… Any help would be great

Hi are you sure you upgraded to 24H2 with WU and not using an ISO image with a USB drive? Three of my laptops were automatically upgraded, 2 Acers, 1 Asus, the last one was the Predator PHN16-71-50JG and it installed in 10-15 minutes without any issues, all my 23H2 settings and 3rd-party programs were untouched except New 0utlook that had to be registered with Yahoo again. I have not heard from a failed upgrade yet that you describe but many users not willing to wait till 24H2 tailored for their system was offered and downloaded the ISO file were either unable to install it or it bricked their PC.

Yup it was definitely windows update, I had got up to do something while it was doing its thing, when I came back I caught the 'rollback screen' which I've seen in the past on a different machine, that was a very old piece of hardware issue.

It's annoying because the current build was fine, I had 30 mins to kill so though I'd get rid of the update reminder. Wish I hadn't bothered lol

Do the installation again and do this, as and if the boot drive is not recognized with a clean install and you cant get into the operating system to use the 24H2 ,ISO file to upgrade Win-11, then you need to construct a USB installation drive with Rufus 4.5 and follow their instruction to build a bootable installation drive and on this same USB you need to put your PH18-72 IRST (Intel® Rapid Storage Technology) Driver version 19.5.7.1058

Afterwards and when you get to the Win-11 installation section @ "Were do you want to install Windows? > Load driver >install the IRST driver from the USB installation drive so that the boot M.2 SSD drive is recognized, as that is what you need to do, afterwards continue the installation and do all the windows updated so that you have Win-11 24H2 OS build 26100.2894 and then update the bios to the last version 1.10, then update all the NVidia drivers by installing GeForce experience software as you can use this NVidia software for gaming too. Good luck and hope this assist you further.

Thanks Steven, annoyingly I'm away from desktop for the rest of the week. I'll let you know if that works on Sunday.

Thanks Jorge, fingers crossed that works. That's all doable on the road 😀

Glad to help you out, also when you get to the IRST section of loading the driver I suggest that you delete the drive completely and start with a fresh M.2 SSD drive with no trace of a previous partition and a clean installation of windows, as that should engage the IRST driver and your M.2 SSD drive will be recognized. Good luck.

I've experienced the same issue. Windows 24H2 update fails to install, and I think it's because it can't see the target drive because it's somehow missing the IRST driver. In fact, it just happened to me this morning.

Since I purposefully broke my RAID, I think I'm going to repartition the boot drive so I don't need to use IRST at all.
