Hello there,

I recently got an Acer Nitro V15 with an i5-13420H and an RTX 4050, and I’ve been reading various posts about how to take care of the battery. There are all sorts of responses, from limiting the battery charge to only using the laptop while connected to AC power.

So, my question is: what is the best way to increase the lifespan of the battery? I’m going to use the laptop a lot, especially for demanding tasks like 3D modeling and gaming, and I’m not sure whether I should keep it connected to AC power or follow a specific charging routine. I’d appreciate any advice on the best practices to take care of the battery.

Also, I’d like to know if it’s possible to use the laptop without the battery, just connected to AC power, or if there’s a way to disable the battery while it’s plugged in.

Thanks in advance for your responses! : )

Hi, whether a laptop will boot without a battery (not recommended) depends on the power circuitry design, when a battery is wired in series it will not work, most mobile devices are wired like this. Do not try to limit the battery charging as this adversely affects system performance and may cause power issues like not resuming from a suspended mode or unable to boot. Acer no longer has this option in the last Acer Care and NitroSense programs. On top of all that limiting charging to 80% reduces battery backup with 1 hour which defeats the purpose of having a fully charged battery in a mobile device for emergencies/blackouts. Leave the power adapter plugged-in 24/7 without any effect on battery wear and make sure the battery is 100% charged when playing games otherwise power will be throttled causing poor performance (FPS). There is no way to increase the lifespan for a battery that is maximum 1,000 full charge cycles or 3-4 years. Fables touted on the web about battery longevity are myths (snake-oil) that was unfortunately followed by the laptop industry in lockstep. Don't worry about a battery overheating or "exploding" by overcharging as the Smart chip inside will divert the adapter power to the main board when it reaches 99.99% charge: https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001587.htm
