I have exactly the same issue with the exactly same laptop from costco. Yes it was $700 deal. It happened about twice per week. External monitor is not freeze but the internal one is freeze. Need to force reboot the PC.

you can just close your lid, wait 1 second, open lid and log back in and it works. at least with this method you don't lose the data you were working on.

i think the issue is the graphics card. cause if i'm listening to music or online discord chat with people i can still hear them and talk even though laptop frozen (happens with or without dual monitor).

i just updated bios to latest one. simple process.. download and double click the *.exe file.. hope that helps. personally,

Uninstall the Intel® Arc(TM) Graphics driver completely from Device Manager and install the oem listed Intel graphics that Acer has, which is driver dated 2025/05/02 and version 32.0.101.6127 and see if that version stops the freezing. Otherwise it could be the actual laptop that is faulty and you should send it to Acer Tech Support so that an Acer rectifies the freezing problem.

Acer laptops can freeze when the processor overheats or can't handle too much data. Viruses, adware, and malware infections can also cause the problem. The situation of screen freezing, keyboard freezing, and mouse freezing can be highly frustrating at times.

i have not tried uninstalling graphics card as yet, but honestly my gut feeling says that's the problem. thanks for the tip, will try that next.

in the meantime what i did is chat with ACER support and they ran the following scans and now i am just seeing if that fixed it. from command prompt run with admin privileges

    /sfc scannow

this one did actually find an error and automatically fixed it.

    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

no idea what this does. first time scan resulted in an error. tried again and it finished 100%.

    chkdsk /r
press Y and enter. this caused computer to reboot with a long scan …

    time will tell..

To fix a frozen PC screen, first try accessing the Task Manager using Ctrl+Shift+Esc or Ctrl+Alt+Del. From there, you can try closing unresponsive applications or restarting the computer. If that doesn't work, a hard reset by holding the power button until the computer shuts off, then turning it back on, may be necessary.
    Here's a more detailed breakdown:

    1. Attempt a Soft Reset (Task Manager):
Windows: Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc or Ctrl+Alt+Del to open Task Manager.
Mac: Press Command+Option+Esc to bring up the Force Quit Applications window.
Identify Unresponsive Programs: Locate applications that are consuming a high amount of CPU or memory.
Force Quit: End the unresponsive applications by clicking on them and selecting "End task" (Windows) or "Force Quit" (Mac).
    2. If Task Manager Fails (Hard Reset):
      Hold Power Button:
If you can't access Task Manager, press and hold the power button on your computer or laptop until it turns off.
      Wait and Restart:
Wait a few seconds, then press the power button again to turn the computer back on.
    3. Troubleshooting after Restart:
      Check for Malware:
Run a scan with your antivirus software to ensure no malware is causing the freezing.
      Update Drivers:
Outdated or corrupted drivers, especially graphics drivers, can cause freezes.
      Windows Updates:
Ensure your Windows operating system is up to date.
      System File Check:
Run the System File Checker (SFC) to scan for and repair corrupted system files.
      RAM Issues:
If the freezing is persistent, it could be a RAM problem. Consider running memory diagnostic tools like Windows Memory Diagnostic.
      System Restore:
If you've recently made changes to your system, you can try restoring it to a previous state using System Restore.

next day.. boot up computer and i see the old looking screens (uninnstalled display driver recall) but a few minutes later with NO prompting from me .. screen suddenly changes to look not so blocky anymore .. its like the display driver of old.. but i did not update anything. its possible laptop updated itself, i did not turn off auto updates.. so i goto task manager and see display driver updated! huh.

here's what was auto installed Intel® Arc(TM) Graphics driver version 31.0.101.5328

i'm just going to keep this version for a while.. see how it goes

Yes, there have been some strange issues within windows affecting the graphics drivers, as that happened to my Predator Neo PHN16-71 model NVidia graphics driver that all of a sudden was waking up from sleep with a yellowish tinge to the screen and the only way I could get the normal white bright screen back, was to go into settings > display and the screen would get rid of the yellowish tinge by just doing that, this happened until just recently when it automatically reverted to the normal screen after a windows update. so you are not alone in these strange things happening.
