My machine came with 4G ram and it looks like it is in one slot (there is an empty slot.) I want to max out the Ram but do not know the maximum limit (although Windows reports 32G) what type ram memory to I buy and how much per slot? Do I remove the 4G and add two 4's? 8's, or 16's? Or do I leave the 4 in and only add to the other slot?

Yes, your Acer Aspire 1 supports up to 32GB modules, so 32GB in total. You can replace both 4GB modules with two new 16GB modules and your laptop will give you the best hardware performance that the Aspire 1 can have.
