Acer Aspire 3 broken hinge, I'll still hopefully get it fixed, taking it back to the store tomorrow.

I bought an Acer Aspire 3 laptop exactly a year ago. Didn't have any issues besides the charger breaking but i got that fixed under warranty. Last week i started to hear a strange popping/cracking sound when opening and closing the laptop. I noticed it was coming from the back of the laptop, but I didn't think much of it. Today, I opened the laptop, same popping/cracking sound as before but then I noticed that the back of the laptop near the hinges cracked. I immediately closed the laptop and I'm now scared to open it because it might completely snap if I do. The crack is on the right side but when I start to open the laptop I can a see another crack forming on the left side. I always open the laptop gently, it has never fallen or anything like that. What could be the cause of this? The laptop is still covered under warranty but I don't know if they'll believe me that I really didn't cause this. The laptop is also insured for any accidental damage so if the warranty fails, I'll still hopefully get it fixed. I'm really disappointed and I'm taking it back to the store tomorrow.

I don't know which exact model like A316-xx Aspire 3 laptop you have, as there are allot of Aspire 3 models, but the cause of the problem that you had/have is that the hinge securing screws to the top LCD lid have come lose and by you opening and closing the laptop and the hinge being lose, all the force was put onto the lid and that is why it cracked.

Your photos do not show the exact problem clearly, as I presume that its the top LCD lid that is cracked, which would have been covered under warranty if you would have taken the laptop to Acer support before the 12 months warranty period, but now you will have to bear the costs yourself of buying a new LCD lid and transferring the screen and the eDP cable and black/white Wi-Fi antenna wires over to the new LCD lid or getting a technician to do this for you, as this is quite a big job. Good luck and hope this helps you out, if you want the exact LCD Acer part number so that you know what to but, give us the exact Aspire 3 laptop model that you have.
