Hello and happy new year. I recently bought an ACER Aspire laptop and was wondering what programs I can delete from it. I can't seem to find a straight answer to this. I was hoping there was video or list or something I can reference. Thanks for your help!

Hi, and a Happy 2025 to you.

There is no point uninstaller the Acer apps like Acer Care-Sense, Purified Voice etc. (see list)

as these just reinstall again, but you should uninstall the 3rd-party browsers, virus checkers and all trial versions as these use your resources and clog up the system with telemetry (cloud traffic). You need special uninstallers for the virus checkers like N0rton, Ad0bo and Office365 as these programs will just reinstall again when using the Windows uninstaller, Check Task Manager-Processes and make sure that the background processes don't exceed 80 apps, also disable the Startup programs you don't use in Task Manager.

In Windows Add and remove programs, click at the far right on the ellipsis (3 dots) for the programs and select Uninstall. Check afterwards in Services and Task Scheduler that everything related to bloatware (update agents) are gone, if not stop the service and disable the Startup type in Properties, in Task Scheduler just disable the tasks. There is a 3rd issue with uninstalling bloatware and anti-virus programs that don't uninstall properly using the Windows uninstaller, leaving remnants behind in the Windows registry. Don't use Revo, IObit or CCleaner and the like as these make a mess of the registry and leave more traces behind than are removed. Just ignore till you think it causes issues, then you can find the remnants with Regedit.exe and manually delete the keys after you made a complete backup of the registry. some programs won't unregister in Windows, those you have to remove manually with PowerShell Package Management, let me know if you need more help with this. Tip: anti- malware/virus programs like McAfee and that "other program" Acer pre-installs require a proprietary uninstaller to be downloaded from their sites otherwise it will keep reinstalling the programs and clashing with the Windows firewall and security features.

Thank you for your responses. My background processes definitely exceed over 80 at a time. My CPU usage jumps around all over the place. So far, no issues with the laptop, except for what I posted in another forum ( I didn't get to check the responses yet) (External drives not disconnecting, and computer getting stuck on shutdown). I will focus on uninstalling what I don't need. My only real concern was accidentally deleting the update I had to make to my graphics driver, to run some games I have been playing, but as long as I stay away from anything that looks like that, i should be good. Take Care! -Bruce
