[NITRO LAG] Nitro5 AN515-57 RTX 3050, Core™ i5-11400H @2.70GHz GPU DWM High Usage and Lagging Issue

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing an issue with my Nitro 5 AN515-57 (RTX 3050), where the GPU usage from dwm.exe (Desktop Window Manager) spikes, causing lag and freezing when playing games for extended periods. The system becomes unresponsive, and I often have to forcefully shut down the process multiple times to regain control.

I’ve tried the following solutions, but the problem persists:

Updated both GPU and CPU drivers to the latest versions
Configured NVIDIA Control Panel for maximum performance
Set power settings to high performance
Disabled GPU Scheduling
Run sfc /scannow to check for system file issues
Scanned for viruses and malware (system is clean)
Adjusted scaling from low to high
Increased resolution from low to high

I’m unsure whether this issue is hardware-related with the Acer Nitro 5 or if it's due to software problems. After some research, I've found that many other Nitro 5 users face similar issues, but solutions seem hard to find.

Has anyone encountered this issue, or can anyone suggest additional fixes?

The only solution to keep the gpu from overheating and for your laptop to be kept cool, is to change the cpu paste properly and to a gaming paste like and to a liquid metal and the gpu to a really high grade normal paste and change the vram chip paste to a high end thermal pad and afterwards, invest in a good multi fan tablet cooler so that it inject extra cold air to improve cross flow ventilation of your laptop, as that is the main causes of these laptops overheating and its fps drops and performance issues in games, especially if you play games for extended periods of time, as laptops ability to be kept cold is very limited and these issues do arise and affect gaming more so in laptops than gaming desktops, as you have done everything that you can software wise for this laptop.

Use the Thermal Grizzly range of paste and thermal pads as they are the best that I've found and I've used on my Nitro 5 AN515-56 gaming laptop with an i7-11370H cpu/RTX3050 gpu/32GB DDR4-3200MHz CL22 ram, they are the Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal for the CPU while for the GPU you should apply the Kryonaut Extreme is a high performance paste and for the VRAM chips apply their Minus Pad Extreme which come in two sizes of 120x20mm and 100x100mm @ thicknesses of 0.5.1.0.1.5,2.0 and 3.0mm, so with the pads I bought the 0.5 and 1.0mm thicknesses as it was adequate to pack the VRAM chips so the pads make contact with the thermal module which is the purpose of the thermal pads.

Note: be very careful with liquid metal paste as its a conductive paste and it can destroy CPUs and mainboards if you apply too much and not to how Thermal Grizzly instructs you to apply this paste! As if it spills onto the mainboard circuitries and especially underneath CPU as it will short the mainboard circuitries and ruin the mainboard, so only apply liquid metal as per guide. I don't think the issue is caused by the overheating GPU/CPU, as the temperatures are around 85-90°C (temperature around 80-88°C when I just bought). I’ve cleaned the fan, adjusted the fan frequency, and used a cooling fan and other cooling tools for the laptop. I also downgraded the GPU driver to VGA_NVIDIA_30.0.15.1274 (v516) from the Acer driver, and it seems to be better now. However, I’ll monitor the situation to see if the issue persists.
