Acer Swift 3 laptop (purchased May 2023), running Win11, keyboard backlight has suddenly stopped working. Have tried turning back on with F11 key and re-booting, no luck. Checked with Acer and keyboard drivers I have are supposedly are the latest. Any help appreciated, thanks.

The Fn key is used in concert with one of the media keys to actually act as a function key. So, if F10 is save and exit in your app and you have the keys in media mode (the default), then F10 does the touchpad thing and Fn-F10 does a save and exit. If you have the keys in function key mode then F10 does a save and exit and Fn-F10 toggles the touchpad.

Hi, could be a recent update, restore the system to a date when KB backlight was working, you won't lose any data just the updates made during that period, type Restore in Search and click on "Create a restore point" and "System Restore" with a date:

It also helps to always tell us just which model you have. There have been literally hundreds of different Swift 3 models over the years, and even during any single years there are often several different ones, what with Intel vs AMD and different screen sizes. Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like SF3xx-xxx-xxxx.

Thanks, haven't had a chance to try this yet; light started working again all of a sudden, if it goes out again, I'll def try it, thanks.

Have just now when light started working again noticed when waking computer back up, a thing I've never noticed before: an icon with a finger pointing at a screen inside the red circle with the slash across; it just flashes on for a second.

Okay, that looks like the 12th gen Intel based models from 2023. As you saw the F11 or Fn-F11 key toggles the keyboard backlight on or off, depending on which mode you have the keyboard itself in. What are your BIOS settings on the Main page? I believe the defaults are like this:

@officerripley The pointing finger icon is for turning the touchpad on or off. The red cross through means it's off. There should be a similar symbol shown on one of your function keys. On my model, it is controlled by F7 (or Fn+F7).

Thanks, well it's not F7 on my keyboard; the F7 key has 2 monitors on it. Have tried all function keys but none turn touchpad back on; F1, F2, and F3 are volume control; F4 is microphone; F5 & F6 are brightness control; F8 has a box with arrow point out of it to the right; F9 is airplane mode; F10 is a monitor with a slash through it; F11 shows keyboard light but actually operates Full Screen mode; F12 opens Edge Devel. Tools.

Update: turns out turning the touchpad on and off on this model is the F10 key (has a pic of a monitor with a slash through it—yeah that looks like a touchpad, uh huh ;-p)—and you don't use the Function key with it (which makes one wonder, what the heck is the Function key for, IDK.

Anyway, thanks for the help, back up and running now.
