AspireE17 Es774-57RK_Query regarding upgrading my computer to Windows11 without buying a new laptop?

Hi,

I have no experience or knowledge of the potential of upgrading my computer, so I wanted to ask what is probably a stupid question. If so, please forgive my ignorance.

I have an Acer Aspire E17 - Es-774-57RK and when I saw Windows 10 support would soon be coming to an end I checked for my free upgrade to Windows 11 but it showed this model was not compatible.

I do not use this laptop very often and I spent what I thought was a lot of money on it at the time so understandably not happy as it is in mint almost new condition but potentially useless in a short time and with years less use than the Widows 7 Acer it replaced.

Anyway, to my point - sorry for waffling!

Can I have the internals needed for this upgrade fitted at a reasonable cost and as I said it's in almost mint condition with few hours on it and I don't really have another 6 or 7 hundred pounds to spend on its equivalent replacement.

Any help and advice greatly received and any recommendations of a reliable service to do this preferably in the Southeast of England and better still in Sussex.

Kind regards

Shane

Hi Shane, good question. The Intel Core i5-7200U processor in the Acer Aspire E17 (E5-774-57RK) does not meet the minimum requirements for Windows 11. Windows 11 requires at least an 8th generation Intel processor, and the motherboard has a TPM 1.2 chip while W11 requires TPM 2,0. There is no way Windows11 will run on this laptop, I recommend continuing Windows10 22H2, security updates may continue for a while just not the feature and patches in 2025. Consider getting a W11 laptop with a fast Gen4 NVMe SSD and DDR5 RAM, Some Acer Swift Go 14" models sell for around $600.

    Hi Puraw,

Thanks for the information but that's the problem I do not have the £600 or £700 for an equivalent replacement and wanted to see if I can get the motherboard replaced in my Aspire E17 so I can use Windows 11 and beyond for between £150 to £200 as that's just about doable. Therefore, I was looking to find somewhere in South East England that someone could recommend to do this within that price bracket.

    Kind regards

Hi Shane. You can install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware, here's a guide, but YMMV -

It's a bit of a crappy situation and upgrading the motherboard in a laptop is not generally feasible for a low price as you're asking. For that price, you might have better luck finding a laptop running an 8th gen i5 second-hand. For my part, I'm planning on limping on with Windows 10 for my gaming rig, while on my laptop I have made the switch to Ubuntu. I suspect that Microsoft will backtrack on stopping security updates at least in the near future. It's not a good thing for anyone to have thousands of computers without patched security issues, botnets are a real issue. Whatever you decide, good luck!
