As the subject states, I'm attempting to upgrade an Aspire 5 A515-58PT-59VW and I'm running into a lot of conflicting information for the maximum storage and RAM that the machine can manage.
The model number doesn't seem to exist anywhere so I'm assuming it was a Costco exclusive, as that's where the laptop was purchased about six months ago - although that product page has now been deleted from the Costco website, but I've attached a screen cap below with the machine's listed specs which are 512GB of storage (Kingston) and 8GB of DDR5 RAM.
After researching this machine online and getting varying results, I finally called Acer to get their take how I can maximize the machine - and the tech I talked to couldn't seem to find a listing with the 59VW extension, so he read me the specs on the standard 58PT . . which didn't match what my machine had installed.
When I asked about the discrepancies, the response was that the 59VW was "a variation" so I have no idea if the upgrade specs I was given are accurate or not.
The variations include discrepancies like "it has 8GB of ram in one slot that's expandable to 32 GB but the 8 has to be removed and the bios re-installed" . . or "there's 16GB of RAM and it's soldered in so it can't be expanded (no, it only has 8)" . . "It has 1TB of storage installed (in fact, it has 512GB) and 1TB is the maximum" or "2TB is the maximum the machine can handle" . . or "there's 8GB of RAM with an additional slot that will accept 32GB for a maximum of 40GB" . . . . . so, hopefully you can sense my confusion . .
As Cyber Monday is fast approaching (last minute, I know but I stupidly thought this would be easy) . . I'd like to take advantage of the price advantage, so if anyone can enlighten me as to the proper maximum upgrade specs for storage and RAM on this machine it would be greatly appreciated. I haven't opened the machine up yet, which is admittedly the next step, but I was curious if anyone here had any definite information on this model before I do so.
Thanks in advance . .
