I’ve been using WhatsApp Web on my Chromebook for messaging, but I’m curious if it’s possible to make voice or video calls using WhatsApp directly from my Chromebook. From what I know, WhatsApp Web doesn’t seem to support callsit only allows text messaging, sending media, and managing chats. However, some newer Chromebooks can run Android apps from the Google Play Store.

So, if I install the WhatsApp mobile app on my Chromebook, will I be able to make voice and video calls like I do on my phone? Or will I still need to use my phone for calls while using the Chromebook only for messaging? If anyone has experience using WhatsApp for calls on a Chromebook, I’d love to know how it works and what limitations exist.

    Hi @Choal

No, you can't make voice or video calls with WhatsApp on a Chromebook because the feature isn't available on WhatsApp Web:

    • WhatsApp WebYou can use WhatsApp on a browser, but you can't make audio or video calls.
    • WhatsApp DesktopYou can make WhatsApp calls on your computer by downloading WhatsApp for Windows or WhatsApp for Mac. To make calls, you'll need:
      • An active internet connection
      • An audio output device and microphone connected to your computer
      • A camera for video calls
      • To grant WhatsApp permission to access your computer's microphone and camera

You can also make video calls on a Chromebook using other apps, such as: Google Meet, Google Duo, and Zoom. The quality of your video conferencing experience depends on factors such as your Chromebook's hardware specifications, internet connection, and the video conferencing software you use.
