Why are the Speakers on Acer Nitro VG270 barely audible?

I just bought an Acer Nitro VG270 to replace an Asus monitor that just stopped working and one of the reasons I got it was that it had speakers. However, the sound coming through the speakers is barely audible.

I have the volume turned up on the monitor and in Windows Audio.

I am using Windows 11 and HDMI (no audio jack) and Intel Display Audio is supposed to be driving the speakers.

I found and installed drivers for the VG270 and it made no difference.

This setup is literally the same as with the Asus; I just plugged in the power and HDMI cables.

Speakers are a must for me and hopefully this can be addressed quickly.

Here is how I fixed the issued.

Open Display
Advance Display Setting
Refresh Rate

If you change the refresh rate down from 75Hz to 60Hz then the monitor will have sound. Hope this helps.

To fix the low sound on your Acer Nitro VG270 monitor, make sure the volume is up on both the monitor and in Windows settings. Set the monitor's speakers as the default audio device in Windows. Update your Intel Display Audio drivers. Run the Playing Audio troubleshooter in Windows settings. Enable Spatial Sound in the Sound settings. Check that your HDMI cable is securely connected and try a different HDMI port if needed.

I appreciate the responses, tried them all, but none helped at all. In fact, I sent the monitor back and got a different brand. However, because the universe hates me, while the replacement monitor had better sound (not great) the picture was awful. I then took a chance that the VG270 issue was a one-off and got another one. Same issue…but the visually it's great. I'm stumped. My guess is that the Intel Display driver expects speakers with more power. I hate the thought of external speakers, that's so 2005, but I may go that route.

With the volume set at max on both the monitor and on Windows, show us the sound setting in Windows showing the output device selected…

This worked for me on my new VG270

Open Control Panel find Sound and open it.
In Playback find the monitor and highlight it.
Click the Properties Button.
In the resulting dialog box, click the Enhancements tab.
Uncheck the box "Disable all enhancements'
Check the box that says Loudness Equalization.
OK your way out of all of those boxes.

Thanks for your post. However, following your steps I did not find an Enhancements tab in Monitor→Properties. However, in Settings following Sounds → All Sound Devices I did find an "Audio Enhancements" option but only under a Bluetooth Speaker that I've attached in order to get sound. The VG270, oddly, is not listed as a "speaker" but as it's own, apparently, type of device, and with the device name itself being Intel Display Audio which is the driver, at least on my computer, for sound over HDMI.

Oddly enough, the monitor that the VG270 replaced, which also worked with audio over HDMI, the sound from the internal speaker boomed.

Hmmm - Not sure why I have this setting and you don't. I am hooked to my monitor using the Display Port and have a Nvidia card for sound. I attached screenshots of my settings.

My guess is that you have different audio properties because of your NVIDIA device. The Intel Display Audio driver is controlling my video and audio and it would seem it is lacking in some areas. However, this driver is not new for me. The same driver was used for my old Asus monitor. Nothing has changed except the monitor. I do appreciate you trying to help. Thanks!

No, I never solved the direct issue. But I ended up using a Bluetooth speaker that was just hanging around and then got a new webcam with built in speakers and both work very well.

In answer to billsey I appreciate your input but I've gone through all the settings and there is nothing amiss or that hasn't been set the way it should be for millenia. And, I took a turn to Bluetooth and solved it a different way.

Install the FXSound enhancer as that works very well and it will boost the volume of your Nitro, that is what I use with my Nitro AN515-56 model and it works great. But remember that these laptops are not made for speakers but are mainly a headphone audio platform for best audio results. Good luck and hope this helps you out further.
