so, I have a Swift 5 SF514-54T-5412, I’m looking to get a docking station (given the common fault with the crack in the lid I’m just going to hook it up to a monitor) but not sure which one.

I’ve spotted this one but I’m not sure if my laptop can be powered by the USB-C port rather than the regular power port.

Can anyone help?

Acer doesn't specifically state it in their specs, but the Thunderbolt port should support DP Alt Mode, so video out on that port should be workable. It does support charging via that same port. Also, your model is listed as compatible with that device, so you should be good to go.

Thanks, I think i'd come to the same outcome myself after lots of reading. I'm going to try plugging a charger into the port and checking it charges and if so i'll go for it.

Make sure the charger is big enough to handle the specs. It should be 100W and provide that via 20V@5A.

    sorry for the delay -

finally hooked it up and it all works, it charges, displays on the external display - all good.

Except… it doesn’t power the laptop on when you press the docks power button. Any ideas?

Yes, just providing power to the USB port isn't going to turn the laptop on. Is the dock supposed to send some signal to the laptop? Maybe they have a driver that's needed for that function that would act to wake it from sleep. I can't think of how they would turn it on from being powered down.
