Acer Aspire 7 A715-75G-544V Laptop randomly shutting down when gaming; replace adapter?

My Aspire 7 A715-75G-544V laptop keeps randomly turning off when I'm gaming, and on two occasions has shut down and not rebooted and needed to be repaired. We've had the underlying problem repaired twice but the laptop is still periodically shutting down, which leads me to suspect that eventually it will re-damage my chips such that it won't turn on again. My computer repair guy has fixed the problem resulting in the computer repeatedly shutting itself down, but feels the underlying issue is the adapter, which is a 19v 135w adapter with a purple pin, and has suggested that I replace it. The issue is that when I called and spoke to Acer, they told me the computer required a 19.5v 135w adapter but thn recommended me this adapter:

which is, unhelpfully, a 19v rather than 19.5v adapter. Some cursory searches around on Amazon have not led me to a purple pin adapter that is 19.5v and 135w, so I'm left with the weird impression that the adapter for my laptop somehow doesn't exist, which certainly can't be right. Can anyone advise me about whether I'm too far afield with this problem, or point me to an adapter that will not destroy the inside of my computer when I try to game with it?

Thanks!

  • Hi @Vorsh I'm not sure it's an adapter problem, it could be a heating problem, does it happen if you don't have the power supply connected?
If this isn't the problem and you're sure the problem is the power supply, you should buy one with identical characteristics, anyway a power supply that delivers 19v instead of 19.5v shouldn't cause a shutdown-
You can find them in the Acer section of Amazon:

Overheating is a common cause—if the graphics card gets too hot, it can trigger automatic shutdowns to prevent damage. Defective components or failing hardware within the graphics card can also lead to instability, causing the system to crash when attempting to process complex graphical data. Gaming can put a heavy load on your system, causing it to generate a lot of heat. When a laptop gets too hot, it can automatically shut down to prevent damage to the internal components. Here are some steps you can take to address this issue.
