‎Question about Upgrading Ram and is my SSD slot gen 5? ACER predator Orion 3000 RTX 3070 intel i7

Hey, Ordered this PC for a great deal from newegg.com!

came out to about 1,100 with discount and sale! While I wait for my PC to arrive, wanted to upgrade the RAM.

What would my best option be for DDR5 ram? I think I want 32gb total, want to make sure it has the proper speeds. anyone have a picture of their RGB ram?

Also, was wondering if the SSD slot is gen 5 or gen 4. Couldn't find much information about it online. It says gen 5 ready but also on amazon it says its gen 4.

The Predator Orion 3000 PO3-655 supports M.2 Gen5 PCIe NVMe, which means it is backward compatible with Gen4 NVMe SSDs like the Samsung 990 Evo or Pro. You should be able to install and use the Samsung 990 SSD without any issues.
The PO3-655 can support up to 64GB of DDR5 RAM. The RAM speed supported is 4800MHz.Regarding BIOS support for RAM overclocking and XMP (Extreme Memory Profile), the Predator Orion 3000 series does support XMP, allowing you to overclock your RAM for better performance: Crucial 32GB Kit (16GBx2) DDR5-4800 UDIMM | CT2K16G48C40U5 | Crucial UK

oh I looked it up, Says gen 5 SSDs are not very common yet and still very expensive. how would i go about upgrading to gen 5 when the time comes?

thank you for your input, very helpful. I wonder if a gen 5 ssd with a heatsink would fit in m.2 gen 5 slot, or if the cpu fan would get in the way of the heatsink

I don't know about Gen5 SSD but the 990Pro with a heatsink has 3x the thickness of the 990EVO without heatsink and should fit in any desktop:

Hi, that will work, the 990Pro runs 2000MB/s faster but gets very hot and the 990EVO for sure will fit in your desktop. Let us know the G.Skill performance and speed, BIOS should detect the XMP profile.😀

I already have a 2 TB samsung 980 pro in my acer nitro 5 laptop, just going to take it out of there and save money. A 5th gen SSD isn't really necessary at this point. the samsung 5th gen ssd is like a hybrid 4th/5th gen SSD, only 5.0x2 / 4th gen 4.0x4. The crucial 5th gen SSD (5.0x4) is well over $250, not worth upgrading for the slight performance gains I'd see while gaming. excited to overclock ram and CPU though! we will see how cool the CPU stays may have to upgrade CPU fan as well. Either way, It's great to see a prebuilt available with these specs. I wonder if a 4090 would fit in this case, just curious, spending over 1,500 on a graphics card is too rich for me haha. I will update this post when i get my PC setup. Thanks 👍️
