I bought this acer nitro 5 an515-57 about a year and a half ago. The other day I installed a 2nd m.2 drive into the 2nd slot, when I booted up the laptop after, everything was normal. Then After About 10-20 Minutes the Performance Spiked, everything was unresponsive/delayed and the same error kept repeating. The next time I decided to pull up Task Manager and waited for the problem to happen again, when it did, the CPU usage seemed to be quite low but the ram was performing fine. Anyone Know What Going On?

Thanks

This is usually caused by unnecessary running services in the background, and for us to fix the issue, kindly follow the steps below:-

    Method 1. Do clean boot:
A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program.

    • In the search box on the taskbar, type msconfig and select System Configuration from the results.
    • On the Services tab of System Configuration, select Hide all Microsoft services, and then select Disable all.
    • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select Open Task Manager.
    • Under Startup in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then select Disable.
    • Close Task Manager.
    • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select OK. When you restart the computer, it's in a clean boot environment.

Method 2. Run memory diagnostic tool: Memory diagnostic tool is a RAM test to check if there are any issues with RAM.

    • Press Windows key + R then type in mdsched.exe hit OK then restart the device.

I've looked into this a bit further and have found the following:

    • RAM is fine (never gets above 60% so plenty of headroom)
    • The perf issues seems to be caused by my CPU being throttled down to 7% across all cores. If I try and open a new application, it wont spike as you would usually expect. The app eventually opens but the CPU usage stays reported as being 7%.

So, it is as if something is causing the CPU performance to be severely limited but Im not sure what could cause this. I'm running an Intel i5 11400H 2.7GHZ
