Hi everyone,

My laptop recently occurred a battery error in which laptop stopped detecting battery but was running on battery. I was trying to fix it by opening the back of my laptop and checking the connections as I had performed all the software fixes and the customer care was also not helping and it didn't solved my problem. I was checking the voltage of my battery and other pins such clock pin etc with my multimeter but when I touched one of the pins with my multimeter, the laptop suddenly turned off and wasn't turning on even In plugged in condition. I got worried and tried to repeat the steps I did in hope of fixing it but then a very small spark occurred near the battery connector. all I can see is some solder chipped off from that point

I don't know if I seriously damaged my motherboard beyond repair or it's just a small fault that can be replaced or repaired. Here are my specs:

Intel core i5-1240P

Nvidia GTX 1650

16gb ram

512 gb SSD

What should I do in this situation? Is my laptop repairable? Or I have to change the motherboard? In case I have to change the motherboard, then how much is it going to cost me? I bought this laptop for 50,000 INR.

You have shorted the main power rail of your Aspire A715-51G (NOT A715-15G😀as there is no such model) laptop which you have probably shorted a mosat that needs replacing. You never ever probe a live laptop with the battery connected if you don't know what you are doing.

I suggest that take your laptop to an experience technician in your area or near you and get them to fix the main power rail, as this is not a big job and it can be fixed. The caption above is of a capacitor that if its blown, it will not stop your laptop from powering on. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

The main power rail starts at the DC_IN port and it goes to a mosat and capacitors that the main rail functions in your laptop mainboard, this needs to be inspected, and it’s a very complex thing that only an experienced technician will understand and can analyze.

The below caption is the mainboard of your Aspire A715-51G laptop, the red circled area is the DC_IN port and where the main mosats and capacitors that could have shorted and its stopping your laptop from powering on. These circuitries need to be inspected from this port along the power rail to see which is shorted and then replaced. As these mosats and capacitors are there to filter the 19V to a 3.3V for the cpu and gpu to work, in extreme cases and if these circuitries blow they could allow the 19V to enter the cpu or gpu, if that happens, then the cpu or gpu will burn out, but if its the cpu then you cant replace a cpu so you need a new mainboard, but if its a gpu then you could be lucky, as you can disable the NVidia gpu and use the cpu integrated graphics, which could have happened to your laptop, so take your laptop to a technician as you cant fix this yourself. Good luck and hopw this helps you out.

Could have damaged some parts inside the laptop. The best would be not to turn on the laptop again and take it to service center or local tech to fix it.

What happens when you power on? Any lights? Are there any lights when charger is in? Here are some steps to consider assuming you are out of warranty.

Try unplug battery and also unplug BIOS battery, now hold the power button down for a minute. We are trying to make sure it has properly turned off and power has fully left the system. Connect everything back together after a few minutes and try to boot on.

Might also try to boot on with battery disconnected, only plugged in to charger.

There are no lights even in backlight and also in power on and battery charging indicator.

Sorry for the naming error in my model😅.

I had a question about the above image that the spark I mentioned were not from the smd capacitors but the two points between them. And in my image the point on the right between the two capacitors is messed up a little. Will it also be an issue while powering on my laptop? Also please indicate what is the main power rail in above image. Is it the battery connector shown in the image?

I had seen a youtube video in which in some Alienware model there were 4 protection mosfets for gpu and cpu which try to protect them in case the power rail fails. Are they present in this model? Also in case mosfets are not shorted but capacitors are, will it still prevent laptop to turn on?

I got my laptop checked and found out that the gpu is shorted. So how can I disable the gpu and use cpu integrated graphics? What's the procedure to do it?

Get a technician to do this for you as you need to disable the NVidia gpu internally and you need proper microscopic soldering tools and knowledge of how to do it.
