Linux mint live usb cannot detect hdd when trying to install on aspire e5-523

Hi,

I'm new, and havee been searching an answer all over the web for the issues I am having trying to install Linix Mint on my laptop tp dual boot along side Windows 10 (current OS).

SATA is ACHI

Secure boot and fast boot are disabled

Both laptop and Linux mint usb are UEFI boot mode.

I have created 100GB unallocated partion on hdd using disk management in windows 10.

My BIOS/UEFI firmware is up todate based on what is available on the Acer support page for my Aspire E5-523.

I can only load a live linux session from the bootable USB in compatibility mode. Regular mode gives me a black screen with some distortions, or just restarts.

In linux Mint compatibility mode my hdd is not listed in gparted nor when trying to install or using any of the commands in the terminal that i found online to get Linux to detect my HDD.

My HDD works perfectly fine on Windows 10.

My HDD partion table mode is GPT.

Side note*

II tried booting Linux in Legacy boot mode, and the HDD is visoble in Legact but not UEFI.

I want to install Linux in UEFI.

Been searching for over a week for resolution (hence why i am able tonoutline some details above) but cannot seem to find a solution.

FYI, I am not very familiar with most of this as its my first time trying to intalls Linux

I appreciate any guidance.

Thanks

    Hi Michele 123,

    Thanks for responding.

    Boot mode is EUFI mode.

    Bootable USB created using Rufus.

HDD Partion was created using Windows disk manager. 100gb unallocated for purpose of installing Linux (as many have instructed to do in my search for answers).

When you say check for hardware compatibility I am not certain what you mean, but I am able to boot linux live environment from the usb in compatibility mode so I assume its not a hardware compatibility issue.

My key issue is that I cannot install Linux to my hdd becauae linux will not detect my hdd no matter how many things I have tried.

What I have not tried is erasing the drive entirely and starting from scratch as i have to create a recovery usb for windows 10 as i am looking to dual boot windows 10 and linux mint. All my important files are backed up to an external HD though.

I am keen on using Linux mint as other Acer users have done so successfully, so I will also try creating a new bootable usb with a different usb stick, and if that does not work then I will try another distro.

My hdd has only been detectable in legacy boot mode in the linux live environment, but not in UEFI mode. I may resort to going the Legacy route but this means i may have to give up windows 10, which is a less ideal outcome as I want to use windows for gaming and any other programs that may be best suited for windows.
