I have a acer aspire CX 885 bougth in july 2019. It seems that my hard disk has a problem and the computer says SMART problem and I have to select an other disk drive to start up. Unfortnunily i don have an recovery disk an also i have not a complete back up. In de dos command i can see the content of c: en d: but i can not make a copy of this files. What can ik do to start the computer from cd rom or usb so i can hopefully reach my files?

Yes, the SMART error is telling you the drive has failed. I'm guessing you actually have an Aspire XC-830, I know of no CX models anyway… Boot to the BIOS on your system and go to the Boot Options tab. Verify the Boot Menu is enabled, if not change it to enable then use F10 to save and exit.

Now you are set to boot from a different device. Install the replacement drive (I suggest a SSD, you can use an NVMe drive for the best speed). You can choose your boot device using F12 at the same time as you would normally enter the BIOS. Here's a diagram of the motherboard:

The SSD slot is #8. With the new drive installed use a Windows 10 install flash drive as the boot choice. You will want to first download the IRST drivers from Acer's support site for your model and extract them to the flash drive. Once you are booted into the Windows installer and get to the screen where they ask where to install you likely won't see any drives. Install the IRST drivers at this point and you drive will appear. Choose it as your destination and let the installer do it's thing. Once the install is complete and you have Windows set back up you can go to the Application section of Acer's download site for your model and install Care Center and Quick Access.

No problem, and reasonably competent technician can do it for you for what should be an affordable fee. They might even be able to recover the data from the old drive, depending on the failure type.
