Here's a bit of the beginning and ending of the text… It begins: "This BIOS is exclusively for Acer only. Press <Del> to enter setup."

It ends: "Error: CMOS checksum error — Defaults loaded. PressF1 skip, DEL Enter Setup."

Can anyone explain why I'm getting this message now on an Acer desktop PC that I've been using for 7 years? Moreover, what does the message mean? Above all - How Can I get rid on this message?

[Edited the thread to add model name to the title]

Thanks for your reply, brummyfan2. I'm no PC technician so I'm not about to mess with replacing the CMOS battery even though they are cheap. Instead, I'll just follow through with my intention to replace this old Acer with a new desktop next month.

If Acer wanted to let me know that it's time to replace my CMOS battery, why didn't they just send me an email with an explanation that I could understand instead of sending me a highly technical message that pops up out of nowhere as soon as I turn on the PC? Even worse, when I phoned Acer's tech support I was told, yes we can help you with this matter, but your warranty has expired and you will have to renew it for one year with a one-time payment of well over $100. Or I could purchase the warranty for a monthly payment of $9.99 for one year.

After this experience my new replacement, desktop PC, is unlikely to be an Acer.

Which desktop model do you have? Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like xxxxx-xxx-xxxx. How old is it? The CMOS batteries usually last fro several years, but if your machine is old enough it might be time to change it.

    billsey, thanks for your reply.

The model number on the sticker is: Aspire TC-603. There is another number nearby: ATC-603-EB11. And there is a date: 2015/01/28

I have had this PC for about 7 years and will be buying a new desktop next month.

Re CMOS, are you suggesting that battery life might have something to do with the appearance of this Acer note at startup?

Somehow, someone has mangled my title of my post. Here's the original correct title: "Lately when I turn on my Acer desktop an Acer message appears 'This BIOS is etc…' How can I stop it?"

I haven't received a followup comment from "billsey".

Can anyone else help me out with this Acer mystery message?

Yes, I also suspect the CMOS battery, it's better you replace the CMOS battery with a new one and set the correct date and time .
