My laptop isn't opening unless I press another button on keyboard while pressing power button.

Hello, I have a problem, power button doesn't work most of the time. If I want to use or power on my laptop, I have to press another button(sometimes with strong pressure). When I managed to open, it shows me "Acer Quick Access - Power Button Function" which means the button is stuck on press or press button is triggering itself somehow. I solved this problem two years ago by putting a piece of paper under the main board. I tried it again with another piece of paper but doesn't work anymore. What should I do?

It sounds like your power button issue is quite frustrating. Since it seems to be a hardware problem, the first thing I'd suggest is to try cleaning the power button area with a can of compressed air to remove any dust or debris that might be causing it to stick. If that doesn’t work, you might want to carefully open your laptop and check if anything is obstructing the power button from the inside.

Since you mentioned that placing a piece of paper under the main board worked before, ensure that the internal components, like the connection to the power button, are securely in place and nothing is interfering with its function. Sometimes, adjusting the position of the paper or using a slightly thicker piece might help.

If the power button is permanently damaged, consider using an external USB keyboard that has a power button feature as a temporary workaround. However, if these steps don’t resolve the issue, it might be best to get your laptop professionally repaired, as the power button mechanism might need replacement.

I hope this helps resolve your issue. Best of luck!

If your laptop only turns on when you press another button along with the power button:

    1. Check if there's a stuck key on the keyboard.
    2. Ensure the power button isn't physically damaged.
    3. Try a hard reset by holding the power button for 10-15 seconds.
    4. If the issue persists, contact technical support for further assistance.

Thanks for answer. @fernandomedina but I don't think the problem is power button. Because I cannot open laptop when I don't press another button along with power button. Do you think changing a keyboard would be solution instead of buying external?

Since you opened the laptop, try to remove the motherboard and reinstall it again. Replacing the keyboard will resolve the issue.

Thank you and have a nice day!
