cp713-2w-5874 won't power on after battery replacement

Original battery is down to a few hours of charged so I replaced with a new battery, exactly the same specs. New battery appears to charge after a few hours (blue light next to power button) but laptop won't power on, even with the power cord connected. Tried the keyboard resets - no luck. Reinstalled the old battery and the laptop powers on just fine.

The problem seems to be the new battery, but it's the same specs as the old so… Any thoughts on how to choose a replacement battery that will actually work?

Batteries these days are 'smart' and that means one that looks the same and has the same voltages are often still not the same. Was the one you purchased specified as one for your specific model of CP713? Note that there have been a bunch of different SP713s over the years, with literally hundreds of different SKUs. Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like CP713-xxx-xxxx.

Thank you, billsey. The battery I ordered was not specified for my specific model. I've since ordered one that is, hopefully I'll have more luck.

No go with the new battery. It specified that it works for my model number, cp713-2w-5874, but it's fully charged and nothing doing so I'll be returning it. Can anyone recommend a reputable option for purchasing a replacement battery? It's such a simple process to replace, I don't want to take it to a shop, but I don't have much confidence purchasing another battery online.

These are the Acer specified batteries for the Chromebook CP713-2W model laptop from its Acer service guide, I would suggest that you buy these batteries from a known Acer part retailer like Zandparts "Acer Battery Murata 48WH 4200mAh 3S1P 60W" or "Acer Battery 3S1P 3-Cell 4343mAh" which is the other LGC type battery suitable for the CP713-2W, as both of these batteries will work 100% with your laptop. Good luck and hope this helps you put.
