If you are running out of memory then things will get really slow. What machine do you have? Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like xxxxx-xxx-xxxx. What size and type of drive are installed? How much memory does your system have? What is running on your system?

That 76% is worrisome, but not really out of line for a machine with only 8GB of memory. Likely you have a single 3200MHz 8GB SO-DIMM installed, so an upgrade to 16GB would be pretty easy, just drop in a second 8GB module. Try to find one that matches your existing. Also, you might want to rethink having 21 tabs open in Chrome, those tabs really eat up the memory. If you could trim that down to six or eight tabs you likely wouldn't need the memory upgrade most of the time. You will also get a better handle on what's using memory on the Performance tab, if you look at the Processes tab you can see only 1GB in total for the top few processes, when you know that you are really using 6 times as much in total.

If your RAM fills up (for example, from opening too many browser tabs), your computer will slow down. A simple restart of your device clears the data out of RAM and loads up only the essential applications your computer needs. You should then only open the applications required to complete your task. A slow computer is often caused by too many programs running simultaneously, taking up processing power and reducing the PC's performance. Some programs will continue running in the background even after you have closed them or will start automatically when you boot up your computer.
