Maximum ram for Acer 314-35 P4BJ

Hi All.

I have the 314-35 P4BJ with factory fitted, 8 GB RAM.

SK Hynix KN8GB0G0691. 8GB PC4 3200AA-SA2-11. HMA81GS6DJR8N-XB N0 AC.

I would like to upgrade to 16GB, which i believe is the maximum for this machine.

Which is the better option?

Install an additional 8Gb of similar (3200) spec. Install 2 x newmatching pair of 8GB, or install a single 16GB.

I have already fitted a second drive (500GB HDD) last year and am very pleased with the extra data space, without too much apparent loss of battery performance. As I'm now waiting delivery of a SSD to replace 500 HDD, this is as good a time as any, to upgrade the RAM as well. (Only disassemble up one time.)

OK All.

In case anyone is interested, this is how the installations went.

I coped the internal 320 HDD (not 500 as I mentioned earlier, my bad) which I mounted internally some months ago, to the new 500 SSD mounted in an external USB enclosure. I used the free "MiniTool Partition Wizard" which had the option to copy the 320 to the 500, or the 320 to a dedicated 320 partition on the 500. I took the 320 to 500 option.

(Safety Note. I disconnected the laptop battery, then held the power button for 5 seconds each time I opened the case.)

After the copy operation had finished I replaced the HDD with the SSD. I ran the Laptop for a few days, before I replaced the single SK Hynix 8GB RAM, with a new pair of 8 GB Kingston HyperX devices. On first power up with the new RAM, I had a little heart stopping moment as it took the BIOS around 30 seconds to recognise/configure the new RAM, before it allowed the OS to load.

So far the battery use seems around the same, but I'll keep an eye on that in the next couple of months;

For what it's worth, the factory fitted "SK Hynix" 8GB RAM, also had the "Kingston" logo on it.

Hope this litle ditty may help others.

I recommend buying a kit with two identical modules as you suggested: Install 2 x new matching pair of 8GB. That will run in Dual Channel mode at maximum speed, 1x16GB module will run in Single Channel Mode at lower speed. 16GB-3200MHz is indeed the maximum supported RAM.

I think that's a good solution.

A new pair of Kingston HyperX,or Micron Crucial, 8GB/3200 from a good PC shop would be less than the equivalent of US$ 30.
