I have to reboot my Chromebook 10-12/day because of the non availability of a DNS server. I've done a powerwash and tried several other things but the problem still exists. Any thoughts?

    Try re-booting the router instead.

Re-booting the router and the modem was one of the first things I did, I set the network to "Google Name Servers", tried "custom-named servers", power-washed my Chromebook, plus so many other actions I can't remember. The number of times I receive the warning "No DNS server available" continues, and I experienced the problem several times just now while replying to your email! You can probably understand that I am extremely frustrated and am considering buying a new laptop if the problem persists. Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

What happens if it sits closer to the router?

It's only 8ft. from my Chromebook to the router. I can't imagine it needs to be closer than that.

Did you install any add-ons just before this started happening?

Hi @DEH1 if the computer is not within an enterprise domain, perform the following procedure:

Run the following from Terminal (administrator):

    netsh winsock reset
    ipconfig /flushdns
    ipconfig /registerdns

    Then:

    • For Chrome type the following in the address bar:
      chrome://net-internals/#dns
    • On Edge:
      edge://net-internals/#dns.

    All the best

I can't think of anything I've added. I believe if I had and the problem started soon after, I'd have considered that the new addition was causing the problem. I try to add only those apps, etc. that are from the Google Store.

Doesn't matter where they came from. Have you tried the suggested partial reset yet described in this link? Some users have reported that this fixed the issue.

Look at what the DNS are servers are set to. Then when the issue appears look again. Have they changed? Typically they are set by your ISP, but you can also try some standard ones like Google's at 8.8.4.4 or 8.8.8.8.

The servers are currently set at 162.252.172.57 and 149.154.159.92 as has been recommended in a couple of different responses to my query. I've had the servers set to the standard ones as you suggested and there was no improvement. I haven't observed any changes to the servers following an occurrence of the problem.
