Need info on a part for my Aspire laptop. I have an Aspire 717-72G i7 model.

Hi everyone!

I have an Aspire 717-72G i7 model. I'm having an issue with my battery, it won't charge at all, but it works while plugged in and the battery was still working until it ran out of power when running it unplugged. After trying all kinds of fixes and taking it apart, I noticed a part is just straight up missing from the motherboard.

I need to part number for the SW2 "Battery Power Off Switch" so I can order it or let a repair shop know so they can order it for me. Help me find the part number and where I can buy such a thing, pretty please?

The weirdest part that it's not there, there was no loose piece when I opened it up, and the soldering is so pristine that it makes me question if it even had a part there in the first place (I mean it had to since my laptop was perfectly fine before 2 days ago).

PS. Can I order the part from Acer itself?

If the part was not there then its not supposed to be there, unless someone repaired your laptop before and could have unsoldered a chip, there are many places on a mainboard where circuitries are not soldered onto the mainboard and look like they are missing a circuit. If your battery is not charging, then you have a problem in either the charging phase of your laptop or the PD controller is faulty and its not communicating with the EC chip and that is why your laptop is not charging. have your laptop diagnosed by either Acer Tech Support or an experienced technician, as a user like you can't that hasn't got the proper tools can't fix a complex laptop like the A717-72G, leave it to the experts. Saw a breakdown for the same model and that one did have it. Also every other 700 series I've seen also has it. So something is wrong.

I have a bit of experience with electronics and soldering, but no not laptops (I don't have the tools because I used to just use the ones from tech lab in college). If I can get the part and soldering tools, I could save myself a 4 days turnaround and like $200. If that doesn't fix it, then yeah a professional can take care of it. If I was being actually reckless I'd put a regular transistor there and completely bypass the switch, but I'm not doing that lol.

Called a laptop repair shop already but they need the part model as well. So even if I'm not the one fixing it, I still need the info. They also said they'd do a full motherboard inspection to make sure there's no other problems.

As for the question, I need part number please. So this isn't the answer :( sorry.

Is that switch located in the RAM module? If so, that switch will cut out the laptop's power if the RAM door is not installed. However, if the switch is not there, don't worry about it as Acer just stopped putting that switch because of the random shutdown from that faulty switch.

Yes that one. In the breakdowns I saw, that switch literally fixed the same issue I'm having with mine. Works when plugged (using my laptop as we speak to reply here) but doesn't charge the battery at all.
