I'm due to upgrade so what is the top CPU available/supported for my laptop?

Intel® core™ i3-3110MCPU @ 2.40Hz 2.40Hz

What would be the limit supported RAM (Go and Hz) with a upgraded CPU?

This CPU has a BGA1023 socket meaning that the chips are soldered to the motherboard. You cannot upgrade the CPU as you have to replace the entire motherboard exceeding the value/costs of the laptop. The CPU supports up to 32GB RAM but that depends on the Acer motherboard/laptop configuration. it supports DDR3/L/-RS 1333/1600 RAM modules.

You don't tell us which computer you have, so we can only give generic answers. Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like xxxxx-xxx-xxxx. Your machine is old enough that there is likely a socket for the current CPU, which would allow upgrading, but only to another 3rd generation, so potentially to an i5 or i7. The amount and speed of memory supported will not change with a different CPU, that is defined by the chipset on the motherboard.
