I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the feature. There could be several reasons why the feature is grayed out on your device. Here are some possible solutions that you can try:

Disable or uninstall any third-party antivirus software that might be interfering with Windows Defender.
Restart the Windows Security Center service by following these steps:
Press Win + R to open the Run command dialog box.
Type services.msc and press Enter to open the Services window.
Locate the Windows Security Center, right-click on it, and then click Restart.
Close the Services window and restart your PC to save these changes.
Configure the settings in the Local Group Policy Editor by following these steps:
Press Win + R to open the Run command dialog box.
Type gpedit.msc and press Enter to open the Local Group Policy Editor.
Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Template > Windows Components > Microsoft Defender Antivirus.
Navigate to the right-hand side pane and click Turn off Microsoft Defender Antivirus.
Select Not Configured or Disabled in the next screen.
Click Apply and then click OK.
Close the Local Group Policy Editor and restart your device to save these changes.
Run Windows’ troubleshooting tools by following these steps:
Open the Settings app by pressing Win + I.
    Click on Update & Security.
Click on Troubleshoot from the left-hand side menu.
Select the type of troubleshooter that you want to run and click Run the troubleshooter.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.
I hope one of these solutions works for you.😊
