I've read the threads on this site and see I can upgrade the memory storage from the 256GB provided with the machine. What are the steps to add storage to this machine? Would like to have the info for both the hard installation and the soft installation.

TIA

You can upgrade both storage ports, the large 2.5" Sata-3 bay and the PCIe M.2 slot at the right side of the battery (see video below) Make sure you disconnect the battery first before touching anything inside the laptop. If you replace the boot drive, you have to backup that drive to an external USB drive using 3rd party software or the Windows7 Image file creator in Windows10-11 and restore the backup to the new drive.

These are the Acer official quoted SG storage specs, this laptop can operate on PCIe3x4 up to 2TB M.2 SSD drives and with SATA-3 2.5" SSD drives also.

These are the quoted SG M.2 drives for this laptop from Acer last update on the 11-18-2019, I've included this a a basic guide.

    Puraw,

If I just update the storage to the right of the battery, do i still have to clone the existing drive to the new one?

The drive to the right of your battery is the oem M.2 SSD boot drive of your Aspire A515-54-51DJ laptop, if you want to change that drive to a bigger capacity drive like a 1TB then you need to clone the drive through your laptops side USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 1 port with an external USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 1 cable to PCIe3x4 case as that is the fastest way to clone your existing M.2 SSD boot drive. Also, the way to clone a new drive, is to use the oem M.2 SSD drive manufacturers cloning software or use the FREE Macrium 8.0 software for the cloning. Good luck.
