Aspire A315-24P won't stay connected to wifi

I got an Acer Aspire 3 15 laptop for Christmas so it's had very little use, but it keeps dropping the wifi signal after about an hour. When I try to re-connect it says the signal is weak, but my Toshiba laptop beside it says the signal is strong and stays connected. I can place the Acer right beside the router ( I'm on Starlink satellite for Wifi) but it fails to connect. If I unplug the router and reboot the computer at the same time, I'll get back on for another hour but I have 3 other computers staying connected just fine. The trouble shooter keeps telling me "default gateway not available". I phoned Acer last night and started a Case file … he got me to do a total system reboot which I finished up reloading the personal info to run Windows 11 this morning, but after an hour I got the boot again. I did manage to run Windows update and install all the latest drivers but that's not cutting it. The IT tech said we'd have to hard wire into the LAN connection to do any more, but the router uses the big square plugs and the biggest one on this skinny little laptop is a USB. I've barely had this laptop a month and it's already cost me more time than it's worth…. any ideas short of a stick of dynamite?

Check the router setting what maximum connected devices are allowed, there may be phones connected too. Turn off all other devices and just connect your Acer to Wi-Fi and see if that works, there also may be 3rd party security settings blocking that link (both ISP and router). If you have 3rd-party AV programs running, uninstall those and just use Windows11 Defender.

What is your Aspire exact model number, as it could be your Wi-Fi card is faulty or windows update has updated your Wi-Fi to the wrong driver, as some of the Intel cards that Acer fits to their laptops only work with the oem supplied Acer Intel Wi-Fi drivers from the support page of your Aspire 3 laptop, so make sure that you install those drivers and test if your Wi-Fi will work with that oem Acer Wi-Fi driver. This happens with my Nitro AN515-56 2021 laptop as my Bluetooth will not work with any updated driver except the oem Acer supplied driver and there have been about 10 Bluetooth driver updates from Intel for my Killer AX1650i Wi-Fi/BT card and none of them work.

Computer SNID is XXXXXX. After I got everything sorted out after the Windows reformat it "seems " to be working ok now. I don't think I'm maxing out the router since I've had up to 3 laptops in my office before, but now I'm only running 2. I know there was driver updates involved with the updates I did last so maybe that helped. Thanks for the help guys, but for a computer company this is one wonky chat room. I'll let you know if the problems start to reoccur.

  • Hello! Can you provide the computer model and bios version? Example: A315-53. Is there a problem driver in the device manager?

I'll try, but apparently I'm being censored for complaining. The laptop is an Aspire A315-24P. It does seem to be working better since the reformat, I've only been booted offline once and was able to get back on about 10 mins later. The Windows updates are happening every day, but I see the drivers are under the optional updates so I have to do those manually. So far it seems to be working well. I'm on Starlink for a provider so they do have little 1 or 2 second blips in the signal from time to time. I think what was happening was that the original drivers were failing to reconnect when the signal got weak, but the other laptop had no problem doing that. For a rural area, my signal is very strong now compared to what we had before. I'll let you know if the problem crops up again… it took about 3 weeks to get bad last time.
