trying to set my acer up as a router to supply wifi from my virgin hub. Used to use another router and that works fine.

i have set wifi up etc on the acer device but when plugging the ethernet cable into the internet port it just shows disconnected.

do i need to change the ip address of the acer connect v6, been struggling with it for ages. Im assuming that the acer router doesnt need to be in bridge mode as i want the router to do dhcp etc.

just not sure what i need to do

Are you sure the cable is good? You should be able to see a connection even if the setup isn't right. Also, it's possible you have the Ethernet port disabled…

The cable definately works ok as i have a tplink in now, the acer predator is replacing it, just wasnt sure if i needed to change the ip address of the acer router or not from default. The virgin router is in bridged mode as i have it working with a tplink already. With a cable going from the virgin router to the internet port on the predator and on web interface its just a red X. Will check that the internet port is enable but assuming it is by default

If the router is in bridge mode, it doesn't supply a DHCP address, that should come from the edge device that you are bridging off. But you should get an Ethernet connection, even if it's not getting a good address.

sorry i meant my virgin router is in modem mode and my acer predator router is in normal mode so dishes out DHCP, i have a cat5 cable from the internet port of the virgin hub to the internet port on the acer router, but when i go to status it has a big red x on the internet part.

Update the LAN driver to its latest version as that could be a problem also, as both the Wi-Fi and LAN should work simultaneously on your Predator laptop if you plug a LAN cable into your laptop, I've done that on my Nitro also and this is the last LAN driver for my Nitro. Hope this helps.

its not the laptop that is the issue, all i have done is connect the lan cable from the virgin router to the acer connect. I am connecting to the acer via wifi and when i look at the internet status on the router web interface it just has a red x

I know this this thread is from a while ago but I wanted to share. When you would like to add an access point .that access point needs to have a different IP (not same as your main gpon /modem) assigned by you manually. Once it has different IP, now you should turn DHCP off on the Acer router. The router should work as a wifi extender now. Cabled of course from the main modem/gpon device.

    Example IP

    Modem 192.168.1.1 and DHCP on

    TP-Link router , 192.168.1.2 and DHCP off.

In case both access/ modem router have the same IP . You must change IP one device at a time. So un plugged (no ethernet cables).
