Hi

I have an old Aspire SW5-012 and have tried to convert to Chrome OS Flex but have been unable to complete

Has anyone managed to do this or is this laptop not fully compatable?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

You must have at least 2GB RAM for a 64-bit installation. For a Win10-64 installation with insufficient EMMC space, you need an NTFS formatted 16GB SD card which the installation program should use to store temporary files needed to complete the installation.

A caveat for budget EMMC-based laptops! Trying to re-install a generic non-Acer OEM factory Windows version can also be a challenge. They really weren't made for upgrading the operating system much, especially with their sometimes peculiar BIOS firmware characteristics.

Sorry, the BIOS firmware in many EMMC mainboards often seems to be locked into looking for the trusted Windows EFI file on the EMMC's hidden EFI partition before it will boot. This means that even if you set the BIOS security tab to look for the trusted ChromeOS EFI file in the hidden partition, it refuses to do so and won't boot.

Sometimes simply re-naming the ChromeOS EFI file to the Windows BOOTMGRxxx.EFI file and placing it in the Windows EFI folder hierarchy will trick the BIOS into thinking its handing off to boot Windows. I've had limited success with some EMMC mainboards by renaming the trusted non-Windows EFI file this way.

cheers for that but also just found out that Chrome OS Flex requires 64 bit and my Aspire has 32 bit

I've tried the Windows 64 bit upgrade that requires 8 gb of space and although i cleaned out everything which gave me 9 gb of space it still wouldnt download the upgrade.

dont suppose you have any suggestions ??
