Bootable flash drive plugged in on the left side doesn't show up in BIOS after shutdown SFX14-41G-R7

Hello,

I'm having a very specific issue regarding the detection of bootable USBs. When I plug a USB flash drive in the left USB-A port of the laptop and shut it down normally it sometimes doesn't seem to detect the flash drive (it doesn't even show up in the BIOS). Now, I just got my laptop repaired by Acer, and they happened to change my motherboard. The thing is though, I think I remember having this issue before the motherboard change too. I'm wondering if this is actually a common bug that many people also have.

Could any of you test it out to see if you get the same problem?

The model of my laptop is: SFX14-41G-R7YC.

It is normal for the USB drive to not show up in the BIOS. If it is correctly bootable it should show up in the boot menu, but by default the boot menu is disabled in the BIOS. Make sure you have turned that option on with the new motherboard, then see if it shows up in the menu.

The Boot Menu was already on but I never used until you mentioned it. I always checked the boot options in the normal BIOS. If I use the Boot Menu, the bootable USB still often doesn't show up in there, but only temporarily. If I wait for a few seconds, it eventually shows up. The USB port on the right doesn't seem to do this, it always make the flash drive show up instantly.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the left USB port is designed for charging devices?

I'm not sure why I didn't think of doing this before. I tried another one and everything seems to work perfectly fine. So maybe the flash drive was the problem after all. Still, why would it only do this with the left USB A Port and not the one on the right?

You can turn the power off on that left USB in Acer Quick Access, will save you some battery charge too. 😉

My guess is the drive doesn't seat fully on the one side. Maybe wiggling it in a bit more will get a better contact, though it might just have some corrosion on the connections.
