Gateway DX4870,Is it possible to put one of the newer i5 in, do i have to download a new bios?

Hey guys,

I am sure this has been asked before but i did see a post not on here saying it was possible, but I need to confirm. I have a Gateway DX4870 that I use for work with a i3-2120 processor, and I picked up a i5-3570k / i5-3570 package deal off eBay for $25.00. My computer says the motherboard is a Gateway DX4870 (motherboard is an IPIMB-AR REV: 1.02ADB.GDQ11.001). it says the bios is an AMERICAN MEGATRENDS INC P01-A1.

1. Is it possible to put one of the newer i5 in and just do a switch?

2. If not, do i have to download a new bios? How should i go about that?

3. What will happen if i try the switch and it does not work? Can i just put back in old CPU and everything will be fine?

4. Or just consider it a Win that i only paid $25.00 for both CPU and not change anything?

This motherboard supports the 3rd gen so the i5-3570 you got should work well. You don't need to update the BIOS.

Even if the new CPU doesn't work, you can still put the old CPU back.
