HID-Compliant Touch Screen not working in Acer Spin 5 SP513-54N-58XD

Hello,

I got this Acer Spin 5 a few years back in 2021. It worked fine the first few times I used it, but after it prompted me to update to Windows 11— the touchscreen stopped working, which sucks because I got this specifically for college and note-taking.

When I look at the settings, it shows "Tablet" settings, but it says, "This device does not have touch screen capabilities," even though it's a laptop specifically made to turn into a tablet…

Today, I changed Windows 11 back to Windows 10 in hopes that would start working again. No matter where I look online, I can't find an "HID-Compliant Touch Screen" driver around. Is this an issue where I have to mail it in to get it fixed? I've tried looking for hardware updates, but it doesn't fix anything.

Uninstall the Touchscreen driver in Device manager and reboot, windows will reinstall the driver:

Also reseting BIOS with F9 (in BIOS and save settings and exit) may help.

Also, let us know just which Spin 5 model you have. There have been a bunch of them over the years. Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like SP5xx-xxx-xxxx. You can also look in Device Manager for something that's showing an error or warning that isn't the touch screen. The touch screen looks to the rest of the system like a USB port…

Unfortunately, my Device Manager doesn't show the Touch Screen driver at all. It used to be there when I first got this laptop, but it was no longer there after it prompted me to install Windows 11. I searched through the hidden drivers, and it's also not there.

That is normal when the system thinks it's not connected, such as when there's an issue with the underlying USB port. If you turn on the 'show hidden devices' option you will see it again, but it will be grayed out since it's 'not connected'. Did you see any errors or warnings in Device Manager? If not, try first deleting the extensible host controller entries, followed by a reboot, the try deleting the root hub entries followed by a reboot. Those should recover from any corrupted drivers for the underlying USB…
