Acer Chromebook Spin 513 won't connect to a monitor

I purchased an HDMI to USB-C cable this week to try and connect my ACER Chromebook Spin 513 to a larger screen. However, when plugging in nothing happens. From what I've seen online you're meant to go to device-display and select screen mirroring (or something like that) but on my setting the only thing you can change under that heading is the orientation of the page, mirroring or duplication doesn't show up. All I want is a second/ larger display to help with my revision and coursework for my degree, I didn't think it would be this difficult?

Which Chromebook Spin513 model do you have? There have been a bunch of different models over the years. Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like CP513-xxx-xxxx. Some models do not support USB-C DP Alt Mode, so that type of adapter will not work. Does yours have an HDMI port on it?
