Acer Aspire A515-45-R6E6 freeze/slow work after ram upgrade

Hello! I have a problem with the quality of the laptop after the RAM upgrade... I installed a new Crucial SODIMM DDR4-3200 16384 MB PC4-25600 RAM instead of the one that was in the slot at first ("Kingston" in the photo). I found new RAM with the help of the Crucial website/program, which said that it would be 100% suitable and would work without problems. But the problem exists - every 5 seconds the laptop freezes for 1 second, which makes it impossible to work, and the laptop itself has become slower. Also, the laptop started making a lot of noise! The upgrade was made for work, as the RAM expansion is very important to me personally. In the photo, I add information about RAM, system and other things (Machine translation from Ukrainian, but I hope everything is clear). I will be very grateful for help with solving the problem! (I haven't tried to fix anything myself so far, so as not to make it worse)

Your 2021 Aspire model A515-45-R6E6 laptop has 8GB onboard soldered ram and can have a max total of 24GB by adding a 1x16GB DDR4-2666MHz module into its internal one slot, which means that you can add ONLY a 1x 16GB of DDR4-2666MHz type ram to this laptop.

As you can see below in the list, Acer only recommends a 4GB DDR4-3200MHz module for this laptop, as the higher capacity ram is al DDR4-2666MHz type. as fitting the DDR4-3200MHz type ram could affect and cause those problems that you are having or the ram that you have could be faulty or incompatible.

Acer does NOT recommend fitting any 16GB DDR4-3200MHz type ram modules into this laptop; Acer only recommends the Kingston and Hynix 16GB DDR4-2666Mhz type modules below, fit ONLY the Acer suggested ram spec modules below, for your laptops to have a max total ram of 8GB onboard ram + 16GB DDR4-2666MHz for a total of 24GB like Acer intended it to be. Also, it could be that and due to your laptops AMD cpu your laptops memory 16GB modules compatibility could be restricted to ONLY using the Acer suggests ram below, so be aware of that also and only fit those modules listed below. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Your CPU is an AMD Ryzen 5 that is known to be finicky with mixed SODIMMs:
You were first running in Dual Channel mode at 2667MHz with 2 x 4GB-2666MHz identical modules:
Single rank, 1Rx16, CL 19, unbuffered Standard JEDEC. You replaced the one in the slot (the other 4GB DDR4 is soldered) with a Crucial Dual rank, CL 22, 16GB-3200MHz and are surprised that this runs slower at Single Channel mode at 1333MHz? Not counting the brand, there are at least 3 specs. that are not compatible with the soldered SODIMM. That's why you have the freezing, I am surprised the Crucial SODIMM works at all with your CPU. Replace the module for a Crucial/Micron Single rank, 1Rx16, CL 19, unbuffered Standard JEDEC 16GB-2666MHz (total 20GB) and you will be OK, but it will be Single Channel mode 1333MHz. 😉

    Hi,

I have an Aspire 5 A515-45G with 16 GB RAM Kingston FURY KF432S20IB/16, and works perfectly at DDR4-3200 (1600 MHz):

It is possible that these hangups problems that you are having are being caused by you mixing dual-rank (2R) Crucial module with single-rank (1R) onboard DRAM chips.

Another possibility, that this Crucial RAM module is damaged. Try check with Windows Memory Diagnostic or Memtest86+ tool.

    EDIT:

    • Resize images.
    • Add screenshot CPU-Z (Memory tab).

I seriously doubt that the "on board" (built in) RAM on your laptop is Dual Rank.

And you can see in CPU-Z that the Kingston module is not Dual Rank.

(What does CPU-Z say about the built in RAM? on the "Memory" tab.)

I "second the motion" to run Windows Memory Testing.

Let us know what you find out.

    Good luck.

Yeap, that's what I also deducted after looking at the specs of the removable RAM module (OEM). This was one of the reasons (to be 1R) why I chose for the Kingston module.

Unfortunately CPU-Z and HWiNFO tools aren't able to read / extract these info of the onboard DRAM chips (show only blank fields).

    Is XMP the problem?

I see in CPU-Z that the new Kingston module is XMP (has?) .

Aren't some Acer laptops incompatible with XMP?

I seem to recall getting warned about that when buying RAM for my Acer Aspire 5, laptop.

    Thanks for the screen-shots.

    Hmmm.
