Help! I'm having surgery soon and want to be able to watch some of my old favorite DVDs while I recover. Problem: when I plug in my external player it definitely turns on, but doesn't show in File Explorer.
Recap of posts on Microsoft community page:
Q: No internal DVD drive on laptop with Windows11, no DVD driver in Device Manager, command prompt trick didn't work, and nothing says IDE, ATA, or ATAPI in Device Manager... atapi in Registry Editor, but right click > New > Key doesn't automatically create Controller0. Renaming from NewKey1 that was created instead to Controller 0 and following directions about New Word and restarting doesn't work. Registry Editor "HKEY...08002BE10318" shows no LowerFilters or UpperFilters.
A1: Suggested I keep the external device disconnected, open Task Manager, click on the details, then connect device. Results: No "Unrecognized device."
A2: Said I need to make sure "get latest updates" is off for Windows (it was). Told me to obtain bios and drivers updates from Acer through a "shortcut to the update utility" on my system settings (no such thing). Went to Acer driver page and had no idea what I was supposed to download.
A3: Told me to copy/paste following in command prompt (run as admin): reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
Result after reboot: no change.
