Disabling the Touchpad

I have two laptops, one an ASUS the other an ACER.

The touchpad on my ASUS can be disabled only by using the function keys Fn + F9.

Friends have told me that every laptop should have at least two ways of disabling  the touchpad:

i) Through the keyboard Function Keys

AND (ie, not OR)

ii) Through the Control Panel>>>Hardware and Sound>>>Mouse>>>etc

Since my ASUS has only one way (that through the Function Keys) does it mean that I've been shortchanged by my dealer?

    My question is this:

"Should every laptop be equipped (to disable the touchpad) BY AT LEAST TWO WAYS?"

Apart from the function keys you just mentioned, can you disable yours AS WELL by going through the Control Panel?

Or is the method using the function keys the only way your model is able to disable the touchpad?

On my S7-191, I use Fn + T to disable the touch pad.

I dislike Win8 so far and have found Start Menu 8 almost gets me back to Win 7.   And, now that I can disable the touhpad, life is better.

If we could only get Acer to fix the bad wi-fi, life would be good again.

Go in through the Icon/show hidden icons flag in the bottom right of the screen...find the synaptics icon...enter the box and select "device settings"...here you can disable the mouse pointer.
