Hi there!
(Acer Swift 3 SF314-580)

My laptop has got total of 2 slots. Previously, it was 4gb+4gb. Just yesterday, I changed it to 4gb+16gb. This means the computer has got total 20gb RAM. But My pc is stuck at using only 6-7gb of this memory. Even applications that required 16gb RAM aren't working, saying not enough memory.

Can anyone help me to get this problem fixed? Because the 16gb Ram costs $80, so it's a lot for me, and I don't want it to go in vein.

Just for reference…

Thank you in advance!

    Tahmeed_Ahmed,

I have an Aspire 5, i-5, with 20 GB of RAM (also 4GB/16GB). When there was only 12 GB, (4GB/8GB) Task Mgr showed 40% of RAM used at idle. Now there is 20 GB of RAM, Task Mgr shows only 25% of RAM used at idle. I use lots of tabs. I open several programs at once. I have never seen more than 10GB (50%) of RAM used on my laptop.

Don't know if that is helpful. Good luck.

Well there aren't any error messages but the thing is that it isn't utilizing the entire memory.

    Hi Ahmed,

I think you have the laptop model wrong as there is no Swift 3 SF314-580, the Swift 3 SF314-56G-53 has 4GB RAM soldered and one free slot for 8GB (total max. RAM 12GB). Perhaps you have an Aspire 3 A314-58G? What you show is normal for 20GB RAM but you would be better off with a DDR-4 2600-3200 MHz kit with 2x 8GB (total 16GB RAM) as that would run faster at 2667 MHz in Dual Channel mode. 16GB is more than sufficient memory for any Windows application. Check Crucial what they have for 2x8GB kits for your model laptop.

I'm working off the assumption your model is actually a SF314-58 or SF314-58G, not a SF314-580. Specs on the SF314-58(G) models show 12GB of memory max:

    and:

So it's not surprising you are only able to access 12GB. As you can see the memory will run at 2400 even though what's installed is 2666.

    Ahmed,

According to your screenshot of System Resources, the laptop at least RECOGNIZES the RAM that you installed.

Having said that, I don't know of a reason for your laptop to NOT use all the RAM that is installed, especially if you are running lots of software at the same time.

Keep us posted, if/when you get this figured out.

    Good luck!
