Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 Fan does not stop spinning

I bought an Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 laptop about a month ago. Everything was fine at first. I really liked the PredatorSense utility for being able to monitor CPU/GPU temperature, and control the fan speed. It was also great that the fan was usually only on when the machine is under heavy load, so when the machine is idle and cool, it's very quiet.

At some point though, this changed. (I don't know what got updated that caused this change.) Now, the fan is always on, no matter what, even when the machine is idle. Even when I use the Custom fan control in PredatorSense, and turn the slider all the way down, it ignores me and and the fan continues spinning. I can still use PredatorSense to increase fan speed, but there seems to be a minimum of ~1800 rpm that the fan refuses to go below. The fan isn't too noisy, but it's just loud enough to be annoying. I'm also worried that the fan will wear out quickly when it's constantly spinning. How do I get the fan to stop spinning when it's not necessary?

Your laptop is under Acer 12 months warranty and if your fan cpu or gpu speeds are spinning fast and are noticeable then your laptop thermal module, fans are faulty or its cpu or gpu paste is NOT correctly applied and it needs checking, as if you don't check these issues, then your laptop could develop some serious cooling problems and even be damaged beyond repair and you will need a new mainboard that are VERY expensive for these laptops, so be warned and get all faulty issues fixed by Acer while your laptop is unde rwarranty!!

Your Predator Helios Neo 16 Gaming Laptop is a high-end gaming/editing laptop and it has an intricate cooling system that is assited by thermal pads and Liquid Metal Paste to keep it cool togther with the assistance of its cpu/gpu fans, that should only be spinning at a noticeable sound and/or speed when your laptop is engaged in either play high end games or operating high end software. These are the Performance Turbo mode max temps for this laptop and the noticeable fan speed noise should only be at 3000rpm and above for both the cpu and gpu:

CPU TCC Trigger = 100C
CPU OS Shut Down Trigger = 110C
CPU EC Shut Down Trigger = 110C
H/W Shut down: 95.5C

You can try closing some background applications in the system icons tab.

I think you two are misunderstanding the problem. The fan isn't spinning because the machine is too hot. The fan is spinning for no reason, even though the machine is cool.

Here's a screenshot right after I booted up my machine. Notice how cool the CPU and GPU are? There's no reason for the fan to be spinning.

And here's what happens when I try custom fan setting with the slider all the way down. It just ignores me and keeps spinning.

Also it was fine for the first few days. It must've been some update that broke this.

That is the minimum rpm, and fans will work on that, you can't completely stop it, unless you put your laptop in quite mode.

Btw where do you live ? Temps are pretty good

The fan RPM curve is set based on the temperature of the CPU, GPU, PCH chipset, and even the detected usage. The custom fan does not stop the fan. It has the minimum threshold like the auto setting where the fans will automatically spin faster at higher temperatures even if the slider is on the lowest to avoid heat damage. I think it might be from the Windows updates that make the Windows heavier.
