I have Acer Chromebook 315, it able to connect to 5GHz networks, but not 2.4Ghz, is it a bug, or is there something wrong with my laptop?

I have tried resetting, removing saved networks and OS has also latest version.

Hello @Mani_kun while reading the specs of Acer Chromebook 315, I found that it is equipped with a 802.11ac WiFi standard, which means it can support only the 5GHz band. It isn't a bug but a limitation of the device for not connecting to 2.4GHz networks.

Do let me know if the model mentioned is the same one that you have.

If you don't know about 802.11ac standard, it is the latest version of WiFi standards which offers faster and more stable connections only on the 5GHz band rather the older 2.4GHz band.

Below the table of different WiFi standards, which may help you to understand more.

Thus, a laptop must have either 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, or 802.11ax in order to use 2.4Ghz as well.

Oh I see. Thank you for explaining that to me.

Yes, mine is indeed the Acer Chromebook 315 model mentioned above. I didn't aware of the fact of different WiFi standards and their compatibility with different bands.

There are many different 315 models of Chromebook. The answer you received is incorrect, 802.11ac supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz connections, and well as connecting to both at once. Which Chromebook do you have? Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like xx315-xxx-xxxx.
