How do I stop the "Sign in to add a Google Account" Pop-Up in Chromebook CB314-1H

I recently noted that another update was available for my Wife's ACER Chromebook, and accepted the update. Since then, she has been plagued by a pop-up box asking to add a new google account every time she opens the ?Docs? app to copy and paste information from other ?open? windows.

The only way to by-pass this request is to ?restart? the Chromebook, which, of course, also closes the needed windows, thus losing the needed information!
I have searched for and found several similar problems on-line, and have attempted to follow the suggested ?solutions? without success; the same problem keeps occurring.
Is there a solution to this problem, which is all my fault of course, so that I can placate my Wife?

That is not a solution, rather you found out the (malicious?) extension you had loaded. And now you removed it.

Is she not logging into her Google account as the login for the Chromebook? Google really wants you to use your account for the login.

I just checked: On Chromebook Settings>Accounts shows that she is signed-in to her Google Account.

The "Pop-Up" seems to be calling a "web_app". Curiously, the little circled-"i" warns that the site is not secure.

I wont enter my information into a "Pop-Up" that is not secure + I do not know if that "web_app" is on her Chromebook, or if it is a redirection to a website.

Check the extensions in chrome and remove all that you don't recognize. Or just remove everything and see if the issue still occurs.

Yes, the only way you can really compromise a Chromebook is to open a tab to a malicious site or add a malicious app or extension. Just remove everything that isn't critical, and be critical of the ones that are…

Pop-Up Stopped !

Solution Result: no “Pop-Up” for 2 days now, and no unintended ‘side-effects’ noticed.

I was finally able to stop the “Add Google Account” Pop-Up on my Wife’s Acer Chromebook. The Pop-Up in this case is the result of a “redirection” by a web_app, so my solution will only work to stop such Pop-Ups. However, it may provide community members a route to resolving other Chromebook problems.

Strangely, to me at least, is that to stop this Pop-Up requires entering “Setup” in a manner different than my usual manner: entering “Setup” from either the app “Launcher” or from clicking the “Clock”, both on my taskbar. Neither method will provide the needed access to “Setup”. Rather, I had to enter “Setup” by ‘clicking’ on the three-dot bar at the top right of my Chrome screen, and clicking “Setup” at the bottom of the menu. The “Setup” screen will look different, and offer options that are a bit different also: e.g., “”Privacy and Security” option rather than “Security and Privacy”.

Once I entered “Setup” in this manner I chose “Privacy and Security” > “Site Settings” > “Pop-ups and redirects”, and added the web address associated with the “Pop-Up” to the “Not allowed to send pop-ups or use redirects” in the “Customized behaviors” section.

There are two setups that you are seeing. One for the ChromeOS itself and one for the Chrome browser. I believe what you changed to allow normal operation was for the browser, not for the OS.
