Can't get Acer Chromebook Spin 514 into recovery mode

Help! I have an Acer Spin 514 and the battery won't hold a charge. I've tried multiple outlets, both charge ports, charging cables, etc.; ran the battery diagnostic that showed a normal result; done a powerwash; none of this has worked.

I want to put the laptop into recovery mode and have the recovery utility ready on a USB drive -- the problem is, no matter what set of steps, instructions, video tutorials, etc. I read/watch, I am simply unable to get the laptop into recovery mode.

If anyone has any recommendations please provide, thank you.

Which model Spin 514 do you have? There have been several model series over the years. Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like CP514-xxx-xxxx. In what does it not hold a charge? Running out of battery too soon, not able to run on battery at all, battery drops out even when laptop is off, etc.?

Hi billsey, I have the CP514-1H-R4HQ. To clarify, the battery will not charge at all - I'm only able to keep it operating by leaving it plugged in. I'm guessing this is a bad IC problem, but either way, I'm still unable to enter recovery mode, period. Really upset as the laptop is barely 1.5 years old, just out of warranty and already effectively dead.

I'll just further add that the laptop is now completely dead — I can't get it to turn on no matter what I do, and when it's plugged in there's a very low-level buzzing/humming noise.

Absolutely ridiculous that a $325 laptop is totally shot after less than two years of light usage!
